Pinch Me

We have had an unbelievable stretch of weather here. It was snowing just last week and we were wearing t-shirts and shorts today. Not a bad March Break for the kids!

We did a lot around the house and yard. Tidied the garage, did some early gardening, pulled out the warm weather clothing, dug out the bikes, scooters and rollerblades. The one thing I didn’t do though was put away the winter stuff. It never fails; my birthday usually involves sub zero temperatures, snow and/or ice. And Easter wouldn’t be Easter without snow. So we have 3 seasons worth of clothing stuffed into drawers and closets.

I’ve decided to babysit starting at the end of April. It will help with some of the growing bills around here and also be a lot of fun. L and A love him already and they have not stopped talking about him. It’s cute. It’ll be interesting to see how L does with it. I think it’ll be good for her and good for everyone. 🙂

The time change has totally messed us up here. It’s taken till tonight for L to go to bed at a decent time. Still working on A.

Grouting Makes Me Grumpy

When we moved into this house, the upstairs bathroom had to be immeidately renovated. Who puts an upright shower and no tub in the only bathroom on the main level of a bungalow? The previous owners of this house apparantly. Me at 7 months pregnant did not appreciate having to take a 3 year old to the basement to have a bath.

Jarrett spent the spring tearing apart the bathroom and putting in a soaker tub, new toilet and sink and tiles. He meticulously grouted but failed to seal the grout. Which means over the course of the past 3+ years we’ve noticed the grout becoming darker and darker and more and more gross.

I tried everything to clean it. Magic Erasers, bleach, peroxide, tea tree oil and baking soda…to name a few things. The only thing that seemed to work a bit was the tea tree oil and baking soda. But it was still gross.

Today I decided to touch up the existing grout to cover the stains. It worked great. Except I loathe grout. Especially sanded grout. I’ll be picking tiny pieces of sand out of my nails for days. And the mess. Oh my. Whatever. In 72 hours I will be sealing that grout so I never have to grout again. Or at least for a very long time. Or until we redo the other bathroom and the kitchen. *sigh*

Snow, snow, snow!

I have been managing to stay on top of the house work and meals, as well as little chores that have been piling up. Except the laundry, which somehow multiplied despite my best efforts. Today I have at least 6 loads waiting for me in the laundry room. *sigh*

In the process of keeping up and being so awesome, I ended up getting a cold. Yesterday I felt dreadful all day and couldn’t keep my eyes open by 2pm. J took the girls out for a couple of hours while I napped. He even got them an early dinner so all I did later was make some grilled cheese sandwiches. Today I feel slightly more human but now I have a cough and so do both kids. Ugh.

The good news is that there’s snow. Yes! Snow! A good foot or two of it. The kids were so excited so I took them tobogganning yesterday (yes, even though I felt horrible) and they are now looking outside practically drooling at the new snow again. They want to go skating today which is great except the outdoor rinks that L can use a chair on are covered in snow and I would have to shovel off before they skate. The other rink will be clear but we can’t bring a chair so I’ll have to hang onto L. And at the moment it is blistering cold and windy so maybe if we wait a while someone else will clear the ice. 🙂

What a Week!

As J has been on midnights (well, 7pm-4am), I have had a car all this week. Which was nice because I had a list *this* long of stuff I have been meaning to do. Stuff like filling up our water bottles, returning some Christmas items, exchanging a few things, searching for some art for our bare walls, etc., etc., etc. With the help of a couple friends and only L to drag around, I managed to do everything I needed to get done!

Tomorrow (today?!) Is my Dad’s 65th birthday party. A surprise party. Picture this: A 65 year old Italian man being blindfolded and shoved in a car and driven somewhere. As my husband put it, maybe not the best thing to do. Haha. At least he won’t be swimming with the fishes. Instead he’ll be greeted at a bowling alley by his daughters, grandchildren, nephews and friends. I’m in the midst of making his cake…and I’d get a whole lot more done if my kids would stop waking up every half hour.

Completed!

As of today, A’s new room is officially finished. With the exception of the curtains. And a duvet. Tonight marks the first night of her sleeping in her new room. It should be interesting. I suspect she’ll be crawling in with me at some point. I just hope she doesn’t forget there’s a ladder to get out.

I’ve been slacking on everything else while getting the room done. Cooking, laundry and cleaning have all been neglected. Tomorrow I plan to help Jill out with organizing her place. Saturday and Sunday I won’t get much done because Jarrett starts some ridiculous midnight shift on Sunday at 7pm. His sleep will be all over the place as he adjusts which will mean keeping the kids quiet…which will ultimately mean being out of the house a fair bit. Hopefully we can go skating and maybe hang out at Jill’s. *nudges Jill*

All in all it’s been a decent week. I feel good having the room done and giving A her very own space. She is thrilled with her new room and I’m thrilled that she is.

Insomnia is for the Birds

I seriously need to fix my sleeping habits. This is getting ridiculous! I fell asleep with the girls at 9, woke at 11 and here I am, still awake and I need to get up in less than 5 hours. *sigh*

Yesterday was good. I took the girls tobogganning and skating. L insisted she wanted to wear her figure skates and the two of us ended up falling too many times to count. I felt like such a novice, when in actuality I can skate quite well. I think we’ll stick to the smaller, less crowded outdoor rinks so she can use a chair!

Jill and I (and L and O) are heading (hopefully) to Ikea tomorrow to pick up a mattress for A’s new bed. And a few organizational items. And lunch. Mmm, Ikea meatballs. Heh.

I made pizza for dinner and as I was cleaning up, I sliced open my thumb on the lid of an opened tin can. Ouch. It bled forever and is still sort of bleeding if I bend my thumb. I don’t think I needed stitches but maybe a butterfly bandage or something. And maybe a tetanus shot. :/

I need to figure out how to add blogs to my blog roll. I was ecstatic to see Rebecca is following my blog and now I have to add her. Among others. Which means I really need to get on my computer more because doing it from my BlackBerry isn’t cutting it.

Ok, time to sleep I suppose. I hope at least.
